Editorial model

KCData is a data-first local newsroom. We track dozens of local, regional, and federal datasets. Each article starts with a measurable signal (change, anomaly, or persistent gap), then adds reporting, context, and source transparency.

Data integrity rules

• Every chart links to the underlying source table/API.
• We separate compositional changes from genuine performance changes whenever possible.
• We flag missing data, low sample sizes, and known biases in source systems.
• Method notes and transformation assumptions are published alongside stories.

AI + human workflow

AI helps with data extraction, drafting, and visualization. Humans handle source vetting, interviews, claim checking, and editorial judgment.
